Synopsis

After being released from prison, mob boss Dwight “The General” Manfredi is exiled to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he builds a new criminal empire with a group of unlikely characters. Sylvester Stallone’s first starring role in a television series. Dwight “The General” Manfredi: I don’t really go to church. The opening credits sequence shows various photographic and painted views and landmarks of Oklahoma superimposed on the New York City landscape: The statue of Sioux Chief “Touch the Clouds” wearing a war hat and bone necklace (breastplate) superimposed on the top of the Brooklyn Bridge; the Golden Drill Statue superimposed on the Statue of Liberty; the Western Gateway Arch of Route 66 superimposed on Manhattan’s main avenue.

In New York City, in the borough of Manhattan, there are several numbered “Avenues” that are intersected by smaller numbered streets. I watched this out of curiosity, with no great expectations, I was just surprised to see Stallone in a TV series. You can feel the tension in the scenes, it also feels pretty realistic as far as the plot goes. I wouldn’t say it’s funny, but there are a few funny scenes as a result of Dwight (Stallone) coming out of a 25 year prison sentence and not fully integrated with the way the world works now; so I assume the sudden change will lead to some interesting mishaps for him in the future.

It’s a pretty smart script, but not in a witty way, which bodes well

I’m glad someone told him how to use an Uber, it was funny while it lasted. Obviously Stallone is a huge character, but the rest of the cast seems pretty good. The show literally feels like you took gangsters written for an early 90’s movie and just threw them in 2022, which gives a good mix of humor and violence. I thought this was just going to be a one-off like some of Stallone’s recent movies; mostly riding on his name and performances, but Taylor Sheridan did a great job writing a script worthy of Stallone’s performances.

If it continues like this, great, if it improves, fantastic

I think it’s going to be fun to watch Stallone’s macho man build a criminal empire from the ground up in the middle of nowhere in Tulsa. I love how it has that western feel to it at times, while still being the mafia. I think the show could eventually go unnoticed and then make a splash where people ask how they didn’t know about it before because I haven’t seen much advertising from Paramount. I didn’t have high expectations, but if the first episode is any indication, this could be a really fun show.

I’ll rate it once more episodes are released and update if anything drastically changes with the show
